• Desiree's Story

This program has allowed my child to grow in many ways. He has learned social skills and how to play well with others in group settings. The things he has learned in such a short period of time amazes me. It’s great to hear him come home from school and tell me about his day and how much he likes his teacher and friends.

  • Katie's Story

When it came time to look for a preschool for our son, we looked at a lot of preschools. The education that we wanted for him based on my experience in the field was not available on our budget. When we heard about the Pre-K program at Smartkids we were skeptical that it would fully cover all our preferences for his education. After going to orientation, it became apparent that the set up and approach to learning could not be improved upon. Our experience with the Pre-K Counts program has bypassed our expectations.

  • Angela's Story

Before the Pre-K program, my son was home with me with little to no interaction with children his age. We wanted to put him in preschool, but could not afford it. When we learned of the Pre-K program we immediately signed him up. We were excited to learn he was accepted. Since then he has thrived. His teachers Ashley and Amy are amazing! I was impressed when my three year old came home able to write his first name.

  • Rhonda's Story

My daughter has been in the Pre-K program for 2 years. We just recently registered her for kindergarten where she had the opportunity to sit down with one of the kindergarten teachers. The kindergarten teacher then came back and talked to my husband and me. The kindergarten teacher said there are normally several things they tell parents to work on during the summer with their child prior to them starting kindergarten. She went on to say that there is nothing we need to work on this summer with our daughter because she is already well prepared to start kindergarten.

  • Dawn's Story

Our family loves the Pre-K program. My daughter has autism and before she started school, she really didn’t talk much, but now words are spilling out of her mouth. Everyone comments on how much she’s changed/improved in just a few months. She now listens to directions. She can count and everyday she’s saying new words. She’s four years old and loves getting up in the mornings and getting ready for school.

  • Crystal's Story

    Crystal's Son

My daughter has learned so many wonderful things in your class. Sharing, caring, and listening to authority, respecting others and their personal items and space. Miss Mary and Miss Amy are loving, patient, considerate, and keep the parents up to date on accomplishments and where my daughter may need help. I am thankful to the staff at the Washington School for teaching my daughter so many things and for planning great activities in and out of school. My daughter loves being able to talk about her day and not just listening to everyone else at home talk about their day.

  • Keandra's Story

I cannot express how much Ms. Marilyn and Miss Jennifer have impacted our lives. First of all they helped ensure my son’s safety in dealing with a peanut/tree nut allergy. I had no misgivings when I dropped him off in the mornings under their ever watchful eyes! Secondly, the love, patience and compassion that they have shown all of the children is unbelievable. They have become a part of our families. My children have blossomed in their classroom. We are very saddened to be leaving them next year!

  • Kayla's Story

As a parent, I am so grateful that my daughter was able to participate in the Pre-K program. Her father and I both work full-time, and this program provided us with a safe place to send her to every day knowing she would be learning and interacting with children her own age. Her teachers have always been wonderful with her, and she is excited about the things she learns and the activities they do at school. I know that I would never have been able to provide her with all the great experiences she’s had at Pre-K at home, and feel confident that she is ready for kindergarten.

  • Chyane's Story

The Pre-K program is definitely a blessing allowing us to provide him an early learning and socialization opportunity while his father and I hold full-time jobs. He has shown excitement with making his own friends and learning new things consistently. My son has expressed how he “loves” his teachers and singing songs also. We as a family are grateful for the Pre-K program, as well as all of the investors and teachers.

  • Kristina's Story

The Pre-K Program has had a positive impact on my son’s life as well as our family. My son loves going to school every day and he is so excited each day to show us the work that he did for the day. It makes it very easy for me to get him ready for school since he loves to be there. We have noticed such a positive change in him since he has been in Pre-K.

  • Jennifer's Story

This Pre-K program has changed our lives. My daughter has grown tremendously in terms of emotional and social development. Her teachers make themselves available for discussion about any and all questions/concerns. As a mother of a child with a diagnosis, it gives me great comfort to know that my child will be safe and cared for when I drop her off at school. I cannot speak highly enough about this particular classroom.

  • Brandy's Story

The Community Action Southwest Pre-K program is wonderful. The teachers and staff are great! They make sure they take the time and energy for each student in the class. My son has grown and matured so much since the first day of Pre-K.

  • Chassidy's Story

The Kindergarten Readiness Program has helped Chassidy become more open to meeting new friends. It has also helped her in following daily routines. She has learned how to communicate better with her peers and teachers. Her communication at home with me (her mom) and her two older sisters has also gotten a lot better.

  • Akaylia's Story

It is amazing to see how my child has grown since starting the Pre-K program. At the beginning of the school year, my daughter has just recently turned 3 years old and was shy and quiet. Being that she has never been in daycare or any type of organized group setting, she had a hard time adjusting to being away from her family and being placed in a group of 17 other children, all of whom were older than she was.

  • Heidi's Story

Heidi has developed social skills; she has become more interactive with others, being less shy. Heidi’s self-esteem and confidence has grown in the last past year.

  • Colton's Story

I feel that this program has really prepared Colton for kindergarten. He’s become familiar with a routine; he can say and recognize his alphabet and numbers. We play a game each week with the letter he’s learned. We each take a turn naming foods, things, places that begin with that letter. He can also figure out words that rhyme together and we make up a funny riddle. He also loves to read, or try to. He can make up an entire story with a problem that’s solved. He’s more attentive than before.

  • Darren's Story

When I resigned from Community Action Southwest in 2008 because I had just given birth to my son, Darren, the Pre-K program was brand new to the agency. I kept my eye on the program as he grew from infant to toddler to preschooler and was convinced that we would absolutely take advantage of the program if the opportunity arose. Fortunately, my family was given that chance and we were thrilled to get our acceptance letter last spring. I knew first hand of the quality programming that Community Action Southwest had to offer and was excited for Darren to start.

  • Taylor's Story

My experience with the Pre-K counts program has been extremely positive. I currently have two children attending the program this year. My oldest, Taylor, will be continuing on to Kindergarten next school year.
